Every year, Road Safety Month is observed across India to create nationwide awareness about the importance of safe driving, responsible road behaviour, and strict compliance with traffic rules. With over 1.5 lakh road fatalities annually, India faces one of the highest accident rates in the world. Road Safety Month serves as an essential reminder that safety is not only a legal requirement, but also a moral responsibility shared by every citizen.
The objective of Road Safety Month is simple:
Road accidents not only lead to loss of life but also disrupt families, affect livelihoods, and place a huge economic burden on the country. Preventing these accidents requires consistent awareness, stricter enforcement, and adoption of modern safety measures.
One of the most important safety regulations introduced in recent years is the HSRP (High Security Registration Plate) mandate. Approved by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), HSRPs are designed to fight vehicle theft, enhance authenticity, and bring uniformity to vehicle registration.

Traditional plates are easy to duplicate or replace.
HSRPs, however, come with laser-etched codes, non-removable snap locks,
and standardized formats, making tampering extremely difficult.

The laser-coded identification number allows authorities to verify vehicle details instantly,
improving the tracking of stolen or misused vehicles.
3. Enhances Road Law Enforcement
Whether it’s speeding, hit-and-run cases, or traffic violations, HSRPs ensure vehicles are
identified correctly through surveillance cameras and ANPR systems.
4. Ensures Uniformity Across India
HSRP brings a consistent, secure, government-approved number plate format,
improving clarity and safety.
Along with HSRP, vehicles must display a color-coded sticker representing the fuel type. These stickers help authorities quickly perform pollution checks, traffic management, and restricted zone enforcement.
